About Aki's Writing

Aki writes quirky, humorous stories and poems for kids who ask big questions, feel things deeply, and see the world a little differently.

She lives in a neurodivergent household full of wonder, weirdness, and joy—where snacks are serious business and worms are considered friends.

Her work explores quiet transformation, emotional insight, and the magic hidden in everyday things.

Aki believes that kindness and curiosity can change everything.

About Aki Westover

Hobbies

When she’s not writing, Aki can be found parenting with her whole heart, drafting contracts, hiking, reading, or helping lost ideas find their way home (aka writing).

Aki loves reading all types of children's literature, fantasy, sci-fi, romance, and classics. Her favorite picture books are Wild Honey from the Moon, The Gruffalo, Where the Wild Things Are, The Very Ugly Bug, and The Very Impatient Caterpillar.  Her favorite children's chapter books are: The Wayside School series by Louis Sachar, The Great Brain by John D. Fitzgerald, A Bad Case of the Giggles by Bruce Lansky, Heidi, Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli, anything by Roald Dahl, anything by L.M. Montgomery, Goosebumps books, Chronicles of Narnia, The Wizard of Oz series,  The Princess and the Goblin, and of course Harry Potter.

Her favorite TV shows are Star Trek and Avatar (the Last Airbender). Her favorite movies are Lady in the Water, Kung Fu Panda, and Studio Ghibli movies. And she loves eating Japanese food.

"Aki" is a nickname given to her by her little brother when he couldn't pronounce her given name--friends and family have called her "Aki" ever since!
